Lawrence Russell Brewer’s extravagant last meal request has killed the tradition for everyone else on death row in Texas. State Sen. John Whitmire won a ban on special catered last meals from the state's top prison official after taking issue with Brewer’s final request: two chicken fried steaks, a triple meat bacon cheeseburger, a cheese omelet, a large bowl of fried okra, three fajitas, a pint of Blue Bell ice cream, and a pound of barbecue with a half loaf of white bread. Prison officials said Brewer, a white supremacist gang member, never touched the food before being executed Wednesday in the infamous dragging death of African-American James Byrd Jr.
