Israeli President “Mortified” by Attack on Palestinian

Israel's President Shimon Peres said Tuesday he was "mortified" by an attack on a Palestinian teen in Jerusalem over the weekend that left the 17-year-old unconscious, the Associated Press reported. According to reports, bystanders looked on as a group of Jewish teens assaulted Jamal Julani, who remains hospitalized. One notable twist to the story is that the first person to help the beaten Arab boy, according to the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, was a 23-year-old Israeli medical student. As soon as he saw the boy, the student began resuscitation and saved the boy’s life. Seven teenagers, ages 13 to 15, have been arrested in connection with the attack, which came only a day after a Palestinian taxi was fire bombed in the West Bank. No arrests have been made in the firebomb attack, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
