“Day of Action” for Imprisoned Journalists in Egypt

Al Jazeera called for a “Global Day of Action” Thursday to win the release of four of its journalists from Egyptian prisons, saying that “journalism is not a crime.” Mohamed Fahmy, Peter Greste and Baher Mohamed were detained on Dec. 29, 2013, and accused of spreading false news and belonging to a terrorist group, NBC News reported. Another journalist, Abdullah Al Shamy, has been detained for six months and is on a hunger strike. The Qatar-based news network is encouraging participation in its social media campaign through the tool Thunderclap.
