2 Americans Killed in Shooting: Afghan Officials

Two NATO service members were shot and killed by an Afghan dressed in a border police uniform, according to NATO officials. The New York Times reports that the two people were American soldiers who were training the Afghan Border Police at a checkpoint of the northern city of Maimana. It is unclear if the killer was a police officer who turned against his Western counterparts or was an insurgent in disguise; both have happened in Afghanistan before. The violence comes in the wake of bloody protests that were triggered by a U.S. pastor's Quran-burning; so far over 21 people have been killed in the anti-Western demonstrations.
