Mischa Barton Put Under Psych Hold

Had "medical issue"

Actress Mischa Barton, who became famous in the "O.C." is having problems in West Hollywood.

Quoting a source, Access Hollywood reported that Barton was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold by the Los Angeles Police Department and transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Wednesday after being "removed" from her home.

According AH, the young star was placed under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code -- which was also used on Britney Spears twice in Jan. 2008 --  after authorities responded to a non-911 call from her home.

"We responded to her home last night on a medical issue," Officer April Harding told Usmagazine.com. "We assisted with it. She was removed from her home."

Sources told Us that the 23-year-old actress called the police after having a "freak out."

The episode caused Barton to miss the world premier of her new movie, "Homecoming," Thursday night in New York City.

“I along with everyone on the ‘Homecoming’ team are saddened to hear that Mischa Barton will not be able to attend the film’s premiere tonight in New York,” director Morgan J. Freeman said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Thursday. “Her performance in ‘Homecoming’ is fantastic, and she will be missed at our premiere.”

Meanwhile, Barton's rep, Craig Schneider told People magazine that the cops were only needed to protect the star from the media as the went to her doctor.

"Police were involved due to Ms. Barton's celebrity status, to safely transfer her to medical treatment per doctor's orders," he said, adding that she was "okay and resting."

Sure.

Barton was charged in 2008 with DUI and marijuana possession and later entered rehab.
