Still Golden: Olympian Laurie Hernandez Wins ‘Dancing With the Stars'

The Olympic gymnast was the favorite from the first episode and never gave anyone else a chance.

Now that Olympic gold medal will have a little company in the trophy case.

Olympian Laurie Hernandez and dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy took home the Mirrorball trophy on the season finale of "Dancing With the Stars."

The 23rd season was an odd combination of nostalgia, athleticism, and awkward controversy, yet the show ended up with three couples who were all equally excellent.

After nearly two hours of performances and one last 24 hour challenge, Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold were announced in third place. The broadcast cut to a commercial break before returning to announce Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy had won over James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess.

While Hinchcliffe and Burgess put up an incredible fight, Hernandez was pretty much the favorite from day one. The Olympic gymnast never gave anyone else a chance.

"Dancing With the Stars" will return to ABC in the spring.
