The Michelle O./Jackie O. comparisons have dominated headlines thanks to a signature wardrobe of classic pearls, sheath dresses and smart suits. But is Michelle Obama stealing a style page from Carrie Bradshaw’s book.
We met up with Michelle on the campaign trail in Allentown, Pennsylvania, yesterday and the first thing I, along with the ladies in our office, noticed when we watched her interview were her stylish black and white flower pins…a look fashionistas would recognize as one originally made chic on “Sex and The City.”
U.S. & World
Stories that affect your life across the U.S. and around the world.
Ms. Bradshaw’s blooms have also become a style staple for Ms. Obama. The now-famous White House Black Market dress, which the trend-setting Michelle wore on “The View,” was accented with a matching flower pin. She wore a flower pin to the Democratic National Convention, when she appeared on “Ellen” and we spotted her in another flower adorned ensemble on the campaign trail in Virginia on September 18th.
Michelle’s fashionable flowers are lady-like and dainty compared to the frisbee-sized blooms we’ve seen Ms. Bradshaw wear with such bravado over the years and therefore much easier for real women to pull off.
Here are several ways you can get look. White House Black Market sells a Marino wool top with white and black chiffon flowers pins for $78.
We are obsessed with J. Crew’s upcoming collection of flower pins. Until then, get your flower fix with their chiffon rosette belts, hair bands and hair pins.
If you want really high end….no one does a flower pin like the original - Chanel. To go the Cheap Chic route - hit your local arts and crafts store, buy some silk flowers and make your own.
