Glam Slam: Makeup Monday – Cheap Tricks

A bad economy doesn’t mean you have to give up your beauty regimen completely. You can still look beautiful without spending big bucks. Celebrity Makeup Artist, and founder of www.shopmakeupjunkie.com, Ani Maloney, shares some recession proof tips that she’s used on some of her star clients.

MAKE YOUR MAKEUP LAST
Stretch your makeup dollars with products that do double duty. Use lipstick as blush and vice versa! Ani suggests you apply lipstick sparingly to your apples for a flushed look. “Your crème blush can be applied to lips, then top with a dab of clear gloss or vaseline.”

“The best way for me to get the most from my mascara is to wash my mascara brush often to get rid of clumps, then re-insert the wand into tube and apply,” Ani says. “You will really notice a better application of your mascara and get lush, not clumpy lashes!”

SKIN CARE ON THE CHEAP
Fighting dry winter skin? No need for expensive products or a visit to the spa, everything you need is right in your own kitchen! Olive oil and honey are good for the skin and make economic and organic masks! Those with dry complexions should pat on olive oil. Honey works best on oily skin types. Apply to face and neck, avoiding eye area and leave on for five minutes. Remove with warm washcloth. Egg whites are great to firm skin and close pores.

If you have sensitive skin, whisk together honey with oatmeal and cream and apply. Leave on for ten minutes until oatmeal starts to dry then wash off.

Dry, chapped lips? A honey and sugar scrub makes them soft again. Just mix the two together, apply and gently scrub off dead skin.

Another trick for dry lips or tired eyes — pop a vitamin E pill and pat gently under the eye and on lips at bedtime.

For a nasty zit? Ani swears by the tried and true. “Visine takes the red out and with continued use reduces the pimple. It REALLY works!”

HEAD-TO-TOE GLOW
Olive oil also makes a great body moisturizer, but my favorite tip from Ani has to be this one:

“To get a great glow on skin in the chest and neck area - KY jelly! Yes! It’s been used for years on film and TV sets for the perfect ‘highlight’ on the skin.”
