Republicans hate actors when those actors hold fundraisers for Democrats or make sappy music videos about how much they love Barack Obama. But when it comes time to actually pick candidates for public office, there's nobody Republicans love more.
Reagan. Schwarzenegger. Fred Thompson. And now Gary Sinise could join their esteemed ranks. At least some acquaintance of Nicolle Wallace thinks so!
Wallace worked for George Bush and John McCain, two noteworthy non-actors, and now she writes the occasional column for The Daily Beast, an Internet welfare program for female Republicans.
Gary Sinise, an actor, currently stars on CSI: NY, a popular television program for old people. And according to a person that Nicolle Wallace talked to once, this is preparation enough for running against the incumbent president in 2012.
One Republican I know suggested that actor Gary Sinise might be our savior. According to news reports, he’s part of an underground group of conservatives in Hollywood—an act of bravery in itself. His stated belief in American exceptionalism might end up being a powerful contrast to Obama’s “American apologist” mantra. The natural strengths that an actor brings to politics would come in handy to anyone going up against Obama in 2012. We will need an effective communicator who can stand toe to toe with Obama’s eloquence.
Hmm yes, good luck with that! Remember how Fred Thompson was going to bring some much-needed gravitas to the Republican ticket in 2008? All he did was sleepwalk though his campaign wearing velvet slippers and muttering about Law & Order reruns.
Gary Sinise will be exactly like that, only better, because he is on a crime show about grisly murders. It's perfect training for leading the free world.
Sara K. Smith writes for NBC and Wonkette. She much prefers the CSI show with the red-haired clown in Miami.
