Funerals and Protests Across Turkey 2 Days After Mine Blast

Burials, protests and strikes were held across Turkey as the death toll in the nation's worst-ever mine accident rose to 283, NBC News reported. There are still 141 people trapped more than a mile below ground in toxic gas-filled passages — most are feared dead. Four major unions called for strikes nationwide on Thursday, as family members mourned and buried their loved ones. Protesters took to the streets in Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey's capital, in a wave of anger that has rocked the country's government.
