French television network TV5Monde was the target of "an extremely powerful cyber attack" on Wednesday night, leaving the station unable to broadcast and locking it out of its websites and social media accounts, the network's director said. After regaining control of its Facebook page, the network posted a brief message stating their networks, websites, antennas and social media were 'hacked by an Islamist group,' but did not point the blame at any particular group. Global security firm and NBC News consultant Flashpoint Intelligence said the pro-jihadist group CyberCaliphate claimed responsibility for the attack. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls called the attack an "unacceptable infringement on freedom of speech," in a Twitter message.
