First Still From “Bashir” Director's Follow-Up

Director Ari Folman, whose "Waltz With Bashir" is one of the more thoughtful, haunting and depressing ruminations on war in recent cinema, is hard at work on his next project.

"The Congress," starring an animated Robin Wright, is based on Stanislaw Lem's story "The Futurological Congress," about a Utopian paradise that turns out to be a drug-induced illusion.

This first still comes from /film, by way of Collider. But Folman has suggested that maybe his telling of the story won't be centered on the original protagonist.

"We’re gonna take some… wild fiction animation, with a real actress that is gonna be drawn and play herself, basically,” Folman told Under the Radar last January. “It’s gonna be her story."

It doesn't really matter if it's the story of the protagonist's houseplants, at the very least it is sure to look beautiful. And with Wright aboard, the acting is sure to be top-notch.

Folman will be showing his new film at Cartoon Movie, the animated festival being held in Lyon this March.
