Family of 12-Year-Old Shot by Cop Files Suit

The family of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was fatally shot by a police officer in Cleveland last month, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the officer who fired the shot, his partner and the city of Cleveland on Friday, NBC News reported. The lawsuit alleged that Officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback acted "unreasonably, negligently (and) recklessly" when Loehmann shot Rice, and that they failed to provide the boy with medical attention for more than four minutes "as he lay on the ground alive and bleeding." The City of Cleveland is also listed as a defendant for allegedly failing to properly train the two officers. The lawsuit points out that the city has been the subject of a federal civil rights investigation, which Attorney General Eric Holder detailed on Thursday.
