‘#LOVEYOURBODY': Fans, Designers Stand Up for Bebe Rexha After Grammys Dress Size Snub

The singer blasted designers for refusing to dress her for the Grammys because of her size

Singer Bebe Rexha’s Instagram video blasting designers who refused to dress her for the 2019 Grammys because of her size has won her waves of support and several dress offers.

In the video posted yesterday, Rexha describes how her excitement at being nominated for Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance was interrupted by the numerous designers who refused to make her dress because she was “too big.”

“If a size 6-8 is too big, then I don’t know what to tell you,” Rexha says in the video. “Because that’s saying all of the women in the world who are size 8 and up are not beautiful and they cannot wear your dresses."

“To all of the people that said I’m thick and I can’t wear your dress, f—k you, I don’t want to wear your f—king dresses,” Rexha continued.

Many users who commented on Rexha’s post agreed with the singer and shared their own experiences being discriminated against or mistreated in stores because of their clothing size. Some even called for Rexha to “name the brands” that refused to dress her.

A user with the handle hourglassphotographyco thanked Rexha for bringing “this issue out of the shadows.”

“I’m an 8 (sometimes a 10) and too many times have I gone into a shop on the Champs-Élysées, NYC, or LA where they only sell a few select sizes only to be told ‘we don’t make clothing for your size” with disdain,” the user wrote. “It was clear they only wanted certain types of women in very small sizes wearing their clothing. I’d love to see this vicious cycle stopped!”

One user advised Rexha to reach out to fashion designer Christian Siriano because “he does not discriminate.”

Siriano dressed “Saturday Night Live” comedienne Leslie Jones after several fashion designers refused to design her outfit for the “Ghostbusters” reboot premiere in 2016.

Several designers commented in the post and offered to help make Rexha’s dress.

“Just let me know when I should start sketching,” dress designer August Getty replied.

Designer Tanya Taylor also said she’d “love to design something custom” for Rexha.

And designer Elizabeth Kennedy said she was also a size 8 when she replied that she’d love to dress the artist.

Rexha captioned her video with the #LOVEYOURBODY hashtag and a message of positivity.

“Don’t say you can’t dress someone that isn’t a runway size,” the caption read. “Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less then by their size. We are beautiful any size! Small or large!”
