Shannon, Cumberbatch Battle to Light Up America in ‘The Current War’

The stars recently sat down to discuss how they bought these two historical figures to life

After donning the cape of Dr. Strange it seems almost natural that Benedict Cumberbatch would take on the role of a real life wizard, none other than Thomas Edison.

Cumberbatch stars opposite Michael Shannon in "The Current War", which revisits one of the first and greatest corporate feuds in American history, the cutthroat competition to literally light up the modern world.

Cumberbatch portrays the celebrity inventor on the verge of bringing electricity to Manhattan with his radical new DC technology. But his plans are upended by businessman George Westinghouse, played by Shannon, who believes he and his partner, the upstart genius Nikolai Tesla (Nicholas Hoult), have a superior idea for how to rapidly electrify America: with AC current.
