Christina Applegate's ‘Samantha Who?' Axed

Christina Applegate's "Samantha Who?" won't be returning to ABC next season.

According to Variety, ABC has cancelled Christina's comedy due to economic reasons. The network was reportedly looking to cut $500,000 per episode and had considered switching from a single camera format to using multiple cameras, a source close to the show said.

The source went on to say that ABC's 10 new series, coupled with the show's slip in the ratings since switching from Monday night to Thursdays, contributed to the show's demise.

Christina, who was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy in 2008 for the sitcom, told Access Hollywood she was thrilled to be nominated and attend the ceremony after battling cancer.

"One thing my mother always used to say when she was going through cancer, was she said cancer is a word, not a sentence, and being here and being in a dress and feeling good, it's such a victory," Christina told Access at the 2008 Emmy Awards. "You can get past this thing and all of those things that defines you as a woman. There's so many other things that define you as a woman, so you know, I'm alive and I feel fantastic."

In early August 2008, Christina's rep revealed she had been diagnosed and was being treated for breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and in mid-August declared she was 100 percent cancer-free.
