A New Yorker has been arrested on charges he impersonated his father in a failed bid to buy Maxim magazine.
Calvin Darden Jr. was arrested Wednesday. Nearly a decade ago, he pleaded guilty in a scam that cost investors millions of dollars.
Federal prosecutors say he is charged in two new schemes.
Investigators say he fooled two lenders into providing more than $8 million in financing for the potential acquisition of Maxim magazine. They say he also tried to defraud another victim of about $20 million.
A prosecutor says he used false documents and "spoofed" emails in the alleged scams.
It was not immediately clear who will represent him in court later Thursday.
Darden's father sits on the board of several publicly traded companies.
