Bryan Adams: Cairo Airport ‘Defaced' My Vintage Guitar

The "Summer of '69" singer took to his Instagram account Friday to show the marker damage to his 1957 Martin D-18 guitar

Bryan Adams experienced some bad luck in Egypt while traveling for his world tour. The Canadian singer told NBC News on Friday that custom officials at Cairo International Airport "defaced" a variety of instruments, including his prized vintage guitar.

Adams said officials were "refusing to release the equipment," on Tuesday, and when they did, the instruments were defaced with green permanent marker, possibly for some form of identification.

Adams hasn't let the incident dampen his spirits, but said it was "just extremely unfortunate that the customs people at the airport had no respect for our musical instruments."

Cairo airport's director of customs Jamal Turki rejected Adams' account, telling NBC News: "I followed the big fuss the international artist made on Facebook and these accusations are false. We don't write on equipment whether arriving or departing and the international artist should specify which department wrote on his guitar."

Turki said that he assumed Adams' guitar was written on at the hotel, before departing for the airport.

Adams is currently on a world tour to promote "Get Up," his thirteenth studio album. [[289629031,C]]
