Man Installed Cameras to Record Teens in Bathrooms, Bedroom: Police

The cameras were disguised as phone chargers

A Boston man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly installed hidden video cameras in the bathrooms and a bedroom of a home where two teens were staying.

Samuel P. Mickey, 26, is charged with violation of privacy and being a fugitive from justice, according to police. He is free on $2,500 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The charges came to light when a family from Pennsylvania that had come to visit friends in Eliot, Maine, on July 18 noticed suspicious "phone style chargers" in several bathrooms and a bedroom where two teens were staying. One of the teenagers found digital memory cards inside the "chargers," which actually turned out to be hidden video cameras. The teen removed all of the cards from the cameras and turned them over to police.

A search warrant was obtained to review the content of the memory cards, which police said revealed videos of unknowing individuals in the bathroom and bedroom. The cameras were positioned in a manner to observe the toilets, showers and the bedroom area.

"This person secretly video-recorded friends and family members in situations where one reasonably expects the highest levels of privacy," Eliot Police Chief Elliott Moya said in a statement. "Most would be appalled at these actions as they are a tremendous breach of privacy. Thankfully, the individual that found the cameras was abundantly suspicious and examined further to learn it was more than just a phone charger."

No contact information was available for Mickey. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
