Accused State Trooper Killer Eric Frein Appears in Court

The man accused of shooting two Pennsylvania State troopers, killing one and injuring the other, during an ambush attack, arrived at court Monday morning.

State troopers flanked Eric Frein as they led the accused trooper killer into a Pike County courthouse in handcuffs shortly after 8 a.m. Frein wore glasses and had his hair neatly combed as he left a police cruiser and was led into the court.

A preliminary hearing was held for Frein in Milford, Pennsylvania. He faces first-degree murder charges and possibly the death penalty.

Frein, 31, of Canadensis, led local, state and federal officials on a chase through Blooming Grove, Canadensis and Swiftwater before his capture Oct. 30 at an abandoned airport hangar in a defunct Pocono Township resort.

Prosecutors said Frein killed state police Cpl. Bryon K. Dickson II and wounded Trooper Alex T. Douglass in an ambush outside the Blooming Grove barracks on Sept. 12.

Trooper Douglass recently returned home from a rehabilitation facility and spent Christmas with his family.

The 48-day manhunt for Frein cost a total of $11 million.
