Founding Father Alexander Hamilton's Powder Horn Up for Action in NJ

A powder horn believed owned by Alexander Hamilton is up for auction in New Jersey.

Hamilton played key roles in the founding of the United States and is now the focus of the blockbuster hip-hop Broadway musical, "Hamilton."

Bidding at Sterling Associates in Closter starts at $10,000 Monday on what would have been Hamilton's birthday.

The New Jersey dentist who owns it hopes the successful bidder donates it to a museum.

The powder horn is inscribed with Hamilton's name and 1773, the year in which Hamilton, born out of wedlock in the Caribbean island of Nevis and later orphaned, entered what today is Columbia University.

The nation's first treasury secretary was mortally wounded in a duel with Aaron Burr in Weehawken in 1804.
