Al Jarreau is Discharged From French Hospital

A cardiologist says that singer Al Jarreau has been released from a French hospital after being treated there for over a week, The Associated Press reported.

The Grammy-winning artist, 70, was in intensive care Jul. 23 after experiencing problems breathing prior to his concert in Barcelonette. According to his Web site, Jarreau’s body had trouble to adjust to the altitude in the Alps, which led to difficulties in breathing. He was later moved to a hospital in Marseille.

"He wants to return to the stage and see his fans," said Jean-Louis Bonnet, chief of the cardiology unit at La Timone hospital, according to the AP. He also said that he cautioned Jarreau not to exert himself.

Jarreau’s condition forced him to cancel several dates of his tour. On his Web site, Jarreau plans to resume performance schedule starting Tuesday in Hanau, Germany. “He has been working hard to recover and prepare himself for his return to work,” it said.
