Santa Claus Post Office Announces Holiday Postmark

The Santa Claus, Ind. post office has revealed its special postmark for the holiday season

A drawing of a smiling Santa saying "Merry Christmas to all .. and to all a good night!" is the special postmark for the Santa Claus Post Office this December.

A special postmark has been offered in the southwestern Indiana town every year since 1983. This year's postmark was drawn by Purdue University student Nolan Brinkman of Dale, Ind.

Postmaster Marian Balbach said the post office branch in Santa Claus usually receives about 13,000 pieces of mail a month, but each December it receives about 400,000 pieces.

Santa Claus is a town about 35 miles northeast of Evansville. It's home to what it says is the world's only post office to share a name with old Saint Nick.

There is no charge for the postmark, but it has to be requested by the customer. More information on the post office's holiday mail program is available here.
