One Killed in Five-Car Crash Sparked by Domestic Argument

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in the Washington Park neighborhood

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in a five-vehicle crash prompted by an argument early Sunday morning, police said.

A woman allegedly got into a car and followed a man who was driving a separate car after the two had gotten into an altercation, according to Chicago Police News Affairs. The woman then hit the man's car, causing him to lose control and strike the pedestrian and three other cars.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the 5100 block of Garfield in the Washington Park neighborhood.

The pedestrian was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, according to Police News Affairs.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as 53-year-old Brent Nelson.

The woman driver is in custody with charges pending, and police are questioning the man.

Area Central detectives continue to investigate the crash.
