Man Okay After Being Rescued From Tampa Garbage Truck

The driver said something like this had never happened on his route before

Firefighters rescued a man who was trapped inside of a garbage truck in Tampa, Florida, Wednesday morning.

According to NBC affiliate WFLA-TV, the driver of a Waste Managment sanitation vehicle heard a man yelling for help around 5:15 a.m. ET. The driver then realized the screams were coming from inside his garbage truck.

The man, who reportedly was sleeping inside a garbage bin on the driver's morning route, was dumped inside the truck along with the trash.

Tampa Police and Tampa Fire Rescue loaded the man, identified as 32-year-old Tristan Godsey, into a basket and hoisted it out with a winch attached to a ladder truck, the Tampa Bay Times reported.  Officials say he was evaluated and is expected to be okay.

"Godsey advised that he could not feel his legs and one of them may be broken due to being compacted by the garbage truck," Tampa Officer Ricky Diaz Jr. said in a report.

He was taken to a local hospital with a leg injury and was listed in stable condition, the Times reported.

The driver would not comment on the incident, but said something like this had never happened on his route before.
