Fake Cops With Real Guns Tie Up Residents in Lowell Home Invasion, Police Say; 1 at Large

A witness told police they had heard the people in the home yelling for help and found them inside, after the fake police fled the home

Two people dressed as police officers, including guns in holsters, forced their way into a home in Lowell, Massachusetts, Friday and tied up the homeowners, authorities said.

One person is in custody on armed home invasion charges but another is still at large, Lowell police said.

The home invasion at the end of Corbett Street took place before 9:40 a.m., when police were called to the home after the victims were found by a witness, according to a police statement.

That witness told police they had heard the people in the home yelling for help and found them inside, after the fake police fled the home.

Both of the home invaders had identified themselves as police officers and were wearing police badges and holsters carrying handguns before forcing their way into the home and tying up the residents, Lowell police officers determined.

Willmann Rivadeneira, a 35-year-old from Chelmsford, was arrested and will face a judge in Lowell District Court Saturday. It wasn't immediately clear if he an attorney.

Police are still searching for the second home invader.
