Chicago police are investigating a video that appears to show a man being shot multiple times while filming himself on social media.

Police believe the video may be connected to a shooting Thursday in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue. The department said it is aware of the video but is "working to confirm its authenticity."

Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the 31-year-old man seen in the video was sedated in a Chicago hospital Friday. Detectives hope to speak with the victim before confirming if the video is authentic, he said.

The footage appears to show a man talking into the camera when shots are heard. The camera falls to the ground and shortly after, someone with a gun appears standing over it. That person continues to open fire in a direction out of sight of the camera.

Police confirmed Thursday a 31-year-old man was shot in the 5500 block of South Hoyne Avenue. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds after someone approached him on foot and opened fire, authorities said.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
