Video: Baby Whale Caught Throwing Temper Tantrum in Dana Point

The calf lifted the entire lower half of its body and tail out of the water and landed directly on top of its mother

A crew member on a whale watching boat in Dana Point used a drone Sunday to capture a baby humpback whale throwing a fit.

Before the tantrum, whale watchers with Captain Dave's Dolphin & Whale Safari had been viewing the calf trying to nurse. When the whale's mother didn't give it enough, the baby humpback seemed to get frustrated, according to the dolphin safari.

In response, the calf lifted the entire lower half of its body and tail out of the water and landed directly on top of its mother. The behavior, known as a peduncle throw, is captured in the video filmed by drone operator Domenic Biagini.

Southern California whale watchers are encountering large numbers of humpback whales, as well as blue whales, fin whales and minke whales right now, according to Capt. Dave's Dolphin & Whale Safari.
