Three women were arrested at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport Tuesday after authorities found 60 pounds of opium hidden in their luggage.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol confirmed the women were on an international flight from Vietnam to Chicago.

The three women — ages 52, 57 and 58 — were among many travelers selected for additional screening at the airport’s international terminal when authorities say they found packets of opium concealed in bags of tea leaves.

The women were arrested by Chicago police at 4:20 p.m. and taken into custody. Charges were pending Tuesday evening, police said.

Further details on how the suspected drugs got into the women’s luggage weren’t immediately known.
