Yurts No Longer Available for Rent at 5 New Jersey Parks

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says they will remove circular tents available for rent in five state parks and replace them with small cabins.

According to officials, the yurts -- large, cylindrical canvas tents with skylights and plenty of standing room -- were too difficult to maintain and often prone to mold. Philly.com reports they will be replaced by cabins complete with bunks, windows and wood stove.

The yurts cost about $40 a night to rent. They have been on campgrounds since at least 2000.

The yurts were available to rent at Allaire State Park in Monmouth County, Belleplain State Forest in Cumberland and Cape May counties, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest in Burlington and Ocean counties and Swartswood State Park in Sussex County.
