York Man Seeks Dismissal of Murder Charges

A man who pleaded no contest in the stabbing death of a woman who lived next door to him in central Pennsylvania now wants to withdraw the plea and is seeking dismissal of the charges.

The York Daily Record reports that 31-year-old Jovon Jones is alleging misconduct on the part of York County prosecutors.

Jones was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison after pleading no contest to third-degree murder, theft, abuse of a corpse, and evidence tampering in the May 2011 death of 42-year-old Alesia Martin, who was stabbed about 40 times.

A trial last year ended in a mistrial after a software glitch revealed inadmissible evidence to jurors. Jones's court-appointed appeal attorney now alleges that revealing the evidence was "intentional misconduct'' by the prosecution.
