Driver of a car headed the wrong way on a Leesport highway

The driver of a car headed the wrong way on a Berks County highway is dead after a crash involving four other vehicles.

Authorities say the crash happened around 11 a.m. Thursday in Leesport, Berks County. That's about 10 miles north of Reading.

Police say the driver was heading north in the southbound lanes of Route 222 and struck another vehicle head-on, causing a chain-reaction crash.

Investigators say one other person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Three other people were also injured. Police did not identify anyone involved in the crash.

The southbound lanes of Route 222 were closed following the crash and officials expected them to reopen in the afternoon.
