Women Sentenced For Fatally Shooting Live-In Boyfriend

A northwestern Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to 17 to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting her live-in boyfriend while she was packing up to move out.

Forty-year-old Tina Louise Shaffer, of Plum Township, was convicted in September of third-degree murder and was sentenced by a Venango County judge on Tuesday.

State police in Franklin say Shaffer's adult son called 911 to report the shooting about 6:20 p.m. March 4, minutes after the victim, Lloyd "Buddy" Shontz Jr. himself twice called 911 as the couple argued, before hanging up.

Shaffer had told police that the gun went off during a struggle that Shontz either handed her the gun and said, "Shoot me if that's what you want" or was aiming the gun at himself when he asked her to pull the trigger.
