Woman Struck by Vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard

A woman is in the hospital after she was struck by a vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard in the Olney section of Philadelphia.

On Friday, shortly before 5 p.m., a 56-year-old man was driving a 2012 Chevy Equinox southbound in the inner lanes of the Boulevard near Bingham Street. He then went through the crossover to the outer lanes and struck Christelle Charles, 20, as she crossed the Boulevard, according to officials. Police say Charles was jogging against the red signal at a location that has the pedestrian activated traffic signal. They also say she ran into the side of the vehicle and was thrown into the windshield before landing on the ground.

Charles suffered severe head injuries and was taken to the hospital where she is in critical condition, according to her family.

Police say the striking vehicle remained at the scene.

Lanes were shut down during the Friday evening rush but later reopened.

Friends and family for Charles created a GoFundMe page for her. CLICK HERE if you would like to donate.
