Sparky and Margaret Boggs told police they were sitting outside the area of Clarissa and Brunner Streets around 11 p.m. on Friday when they spotted a woman walking northbound on Clarissa Street in the bike lane.

Sparky says he then spotted a car drive by and then heard a loud "bang." Boggs ran to the corner and found the woman lying on the ground while the car continued traveling down Clarissa Street.

"I went across the street to see how she was doing," Boggs said. "From what I could see she wasn't breathing."

The victim, identified by sources as 21-year-old Ceeanna Pate, was taken to Temple University Hospital where she is currently in critical condition.

Police say the striking vehicle may be a gray, Dodge Avenger.

"That's what bothered me," Margaret Boggs said. "That somebody would really hit a person, a human being, and just keep on going."

Mary Nicholas, who has lived in the neighborhood for 40 years, says she has seen a number of accidents similar to Friday's.

"I'm just praying to God to restore this young woman because it's a miracle that she even survived what happened to her last night," Nicholas said. "I was just horrified to hear how young she is."

Police are currently looking through surveillance video to track down the suspect.
