Woman Jailed for Selling Amusement Ride Parts for Scrap

A woman has been jailed on charges that she sold parts of an inactive ride at a historic Pennsylvania amusement park for scrap.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 21-year-old Janelle Simmons, of Conneaut Lake, who faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 28.

The Meadville Tribune reports Sammons sold 13 metal support beams from the Toboggan ride at Conneaut Lake Park and sold them to a Meadville recycler. Park officials say the beams were worth $15,600 because they were specially shaped to support the ride's weight.

Police recovered the beams before they were destroyed.

The 122-year-old park is located about 95 miles north of Pittsburgh. The attorney general's office has asked a judge to postpone a Nov. 7 sheriff's sale so the charitable trust that owns the park can revitalize and expand it.
