Art Museum Area Hit-&-Run Kills Woman

Police plan to charge 30-year-old person of interest in connection with deadly crash on Spring Garden Street Bridge

A 30-year-old West Philadelphia man will be charged Tuesday with homicide by vehicle and related charges after he allegedly left the scene of a deadly overnight crash near the Art Museum in Philadelphia overnight.

Police took the unidentified person of interest into custody in connection with a crash on the Spring Garden Street Bridge that killed a female passenger and injured the male driver.

Investigators say the person of interest was taken into custody in West Philadelphia about four hours after the accident.

Around 12:20 a.m., the victim's car was traveling west on Spring Garden when the alleged hit-and-run driver, who had just exited the Schuylkill Expressway eastbound, broadsided the vehicle, police told NBC10's Jesse Gary.

The suspect, investigators say, got out of his car and ran away.

An ambulance rushed a 40-year-old woman to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where doctors pronounced her dead. The 57-year-old driver was also taken to HUP where he remained in stable condition Tuesday morning.

Police tell NBC10 that questioning the person of interest could take hours but charges are expected around noon.
