Woman Charged in Alcohol-Related Crash That Injured Sisters

Authorities say a northern New Jersey woman was driving drunk when her car struck a tree, seriously injuring her two sisters.

Bergen County prosecutors say 23-year-old Caroline McCourt, of River Edge, faces two counts of assault by auto. She was released on her own recognizance and is due to appear Tuesday in municipal court.

The crash occurred around 3:45 a.m. Monday in River Edge. Authorities say her car crossed into the oncoming traffic lane, mounted the curb and hit the tree.

Prosecutors say McCourt's sisters suffered undisclosed injuries and were taken to hospitals, but further details on their conditions have not been disclosed.

It wasn't clear if Caroline McCourt was injured. A telephone number for her could not be located Tuesday, and it wasn't known if she's retained an attorney.
