Woman Charged for Hit-and-Run Death of 19-Year-Old Mother

Ceeanna Pate, a mother-of-two, died earlier this month after suffering severe head trauma

A Philadelphia woman has been arrested for hitting a 19-year-old woman with her car earlier this month and then fleeing the scene. The victim, a mother-of-two, later died from her injuries.

Terrie Fleming, 45, turned herself in to Philadelphia Police's Accident Investigation Division on Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued for her.

Fleming allegedly ran down 19-year-old Ceeanna Pate as she walked in the bike lane along Clarissa Street near Brunner Street in the Hunting Park section of the city on Oct. 4, according to police.

Pate suffered severe head trauma and after spending five days at Temple University Hospital in critical condition, died from the injuries.

Surveillance video captured Fleming's gray Dodge Avenger allegedly fleeing the scene, which police say, helped them identify the car and driver.

Two weeks ago, investigators announced they had a suspect, but did not release a name because charges were not yet approved by the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.

The news of Fleming's arrest was welcomed by Ceeanna's father, Steve Pate.

"I felt a sense of relief," he said with tears streaming down his face. "I want her to know that my life will never be the same again, without my daughter. That's my baby. You left her in the street to die."

Fleming is charged with Homicide by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter, Accident Involving Death and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
