Should Boy Accused in High School Rape Be Tried as an Adult?

A teenage boy is accused of attacking his classmate inside their high school.

Montgomery County (Pa.) District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman says that a 16-year-old Wissahickon High School student was arrested following a forcible attack on his 15-year-old classmate.

The boy allegedly attacked the girl in the school auditorium and proceeded to rape her at the Ambler, Pa. school. The girl was “significantly” hurt during the attack and required medical treatment, said Ferman.

The attack happened April 29 and the boy was arrested the following day and sent to juvenile court on rape, involuntary deviate sexual assault and related charges.

Since the boy is a minor he hasn’t been identified but that could change.

Ferman announced Wednesday that a petition was field in juvenile court on May 16 that asked for the boy to face charges as an adult. A hearing is scheduled on July 17.
