Old Man Winter's Return

Get the hats, gloves and scarves back out -- a weekend cold blast is coming.

Wednesday was the 14th straight day with above average temperatures. And, as a whole, January temperatures were above average. But, arctic air should be returning starting Thursday night, after a strong cold front moves through the area.

Temps will be at least 15 degrees colder Friday than Thursday.

The cold weather should last through the weekend with lows at night mainly in the teens and wind chills possibly dropping to the single digits at night.

There is also a storm watch going on. A storm in the southern states will spread snow up through North Carolina and Virginia -- some big snow totals are expected in those places.

We should remain on the northern edge of the snow. That means southern parts of the area should have the best chance of seeing snow while it would likely stay dry to the north.

The cold spell will be a short one, though, as temperatures should return to seasonable levels during next week.
