Philadelphia-native and NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain, who is immortalized by limited edition Forever stamps, will be honored during a free, public ceremony at Overbrook High school Wednesday.
Chamberlain, who is known for setting a record by scoring 100 points in one game, will be honored at his the Philly high school where the legend of 'Wilt the Stilt' begin.
Chamberlain stood at a towering 6-feet tall by the age of 10 and eventually grew to tower at 7-foot-1-inches tall in his playing days. During his time at Overbrook High School, he set a Pennsylvania scoring record of 2,200 total points for his basketball team.
The Wilton Chamberlain Postal Stamp Committee worked for six years to achieve their dream of flooding post offices with Chamberlain stamps. After 55,000 signatures, the committee can now celebrate the success of making Chamberlain the first NBA player forever commemorated by stamp.
The stamp was officially unveiled during the halftime of the Sixers-Oklahoma City Thunder game at the Wells Fargo Center last week.
Wednesday's celebration at 2 p.m. will feature Sixers legends Sonny Hill and World B Free, local dignitaries and the current Overbrook High boy's basketball team.
Chamberlain played 14 seasons in the NBA, including leading the 1966-67 76ers to the championship. He died in October 1999 at the age of 63.
