Children played at a Delaware playground again Thursday evening despite a troubling discovery earlier in the day right on top of a slide.
Thursday morning, Wilmington Police blocked off the playground equipment at Canby Park off S Union Street after the discovery of a woman’s body. Wilmington Police called the death “suspicious.”
Neighbors said some of the dead woman’s clothing was pulled down around her ankles and that earlier Wednesday night she was seen sitting with a man on a bench across the park. Investigators didn’t immediately reveal exact details of the body’s condition nor did they identify the victim. An autopsy would be needed to determine a cause of death.
People in the area of the park – a row of homes sits close by – searched answers.
“I’m surprised, we haven’t had an incident happen here – especially here in the park,” said neighbor Kevin Barry.
Fire crews washed down the slide and scrubbed the park before reopening it.
