Passenger Bails From Felon's Car, Opens Fire on Officers: Police

Police say a 26-year-old convicted felon was arrested after officers tried to stop a car, two passengers bailed out and one opened fire.

Officers tried to stop the car Tuesday night on 28th Street in Wilmington.

That's when police say two men jumped out of the car and one opened fire. Police found a loaded handgun, but were not able to catch the men.

Meanwhile, police say the driver took off. The car was later found near where the registered owner lives and police say they determined the owner's boyfriend, Thomas Rivers, had been driving it. Inside the car, police say they found another handgun.

Rivers is charged with possession of a firearm within 10 years of a felony conviction, non-compliance with condition of bail and other offenses.
