Wildfire burns for days in South Jersey

The so-called Danny’s Wildfire has burned for days in NJ's Peaslee Wildlife Management Area in Cumberland County

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service battled a wildfire in Cumberland County through the weekend and Monday.

The wildfire began burning at the Peaslee Wildlife Management Area in Vineland on Friday, April 18, 2025, and continued into Monday, officials said.

In an update around 4:50 p.m. on Monday, April 21, officials said the fire -- dubbed the Danny's Wildfire -- continued to be about 75% contained after growing to encompass about 1,300 acres.

Cow Turd Road remained closed between Cedar Brand and Hesstown roads, officials said. Union Road road reopened between Route 49 and Mays Landing Road after being closed for two days.

Bennetts Mill Road also reopened between Union Road and Manumuskin River.

As of Monday there were no evacuations in the area because none of the buildings nearby were threatened, officials said.

No injuries have been reported. Officials urged residents to not fly drones in the area.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
