Water Main Breaks in Northeast Philadelphia Closing Road

A water main break near a busy Philadelphia intersection caused crews to close the road for hours Tuesday.

The 12-inch pipe broke along Southampton Road at the Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 1) near Benjamin Rush State Park in the far Northeast around 1 p.m.

The break caused water to flood the immediate area, including surrounding a car.

Once the water department shut off the flow of water and examined the damage they determined that Southampton Road would remain closed from the Boulevard to McNulty Road until further notice. the roadway finally reopened shortly after 10 p.m.

The water department reported no services outages in the area.
