Water Main Breaks in Fishtown Closing Streets

Streets remain shutdown after 10-inch pipe breaks

A water main break shutdown streets in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia for much of the day Sunday.

The break happened around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of E Girard Avenue and E Montgomery Avenue.

About eight properties were without water service as the Philadelphia Water Department worked to fix the 10-inch main.

The Water Department said service would be restored after 6 p.m.

Despite the water coming back on, Girard remained closed from E Susquehanna Avenue to E Palmer Street and Montgomery also remained closed in that area.

There is no timetable on when the roadways would reopen.
