Record-Tying Christmas Warmth in Philly

The extreme December warmth continued Christmas day bringing record-breaking or tying high temperatures to the Philadelphia region.

A day after temps around 70 shattered records pretty much everywhere, some more records fell as high temps pushed past 70 in Georgetown, Delaware (74) and Atlantic City Airport (71). Mt Pocono also hit a record with a high of 63.

In Philadelphia the high of 68 degrees tied the record, which is something still notable even if it doesn’t stand alone.

"Well, it's hard to set records," said NBC10 First Alert Weather chief meteorologist Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz. "Each day has a different record, yesterday's was 64, if today's record was 64 we would have broken it. Today's record was 68."

More record warmth (possible another record high) is expected Sunday after a cooler Saturday with rain and highs in the 50s as a back-door cold front temporarily knock down temps, said Glenn.

"The front is coming down from the northeast, the wind is coming down from the northeast, it’s going to be cloudy… it will be much, much colder,” said Glenn who noted that the 70-degree days are about 30 degrees above normal for this time of year.

The warmer weather won’t last as Glenn is forecasting colder temps for the New Year that people will really notice.

"The fact that we've been so warm, it's going to make it feel that much warmer."
