Walnut Street Reopens After Water Main Break

It took a little more than a week for crews to repair street in busy shopping district

Center City shoppers got a rude and wet interruption to their holiday shopping due to a water main break last Saturday afternoon at 16th and Walnut streets.

Water from a broken 12-inch main buckled the asphalt and caused more than a week of repairs that forced traffic to be diverted from Walnut Street during the busiest time of year for many area businesses.

But at 4 p.m. Monday, the Philadelphia Water Department officially declared the street repaired and reopened to traffic.
