Vince Fumo Aide Ordered to Pay $800,000

Ruth Arnao must pay nearly $800,000 in restitution, but she won't have to go back to prison.

A top aide to imprisoned former Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Fumo does not have to return to prison.

Ruth Arnao was ordered to pay nearly $800,000 in restitution at her re-sentencing Wednesday, but she didn't get a longer sentence. She had served about 10 months of a one-year sentence.

An appeals court this year ordered new sentencings for Fumo and Arnao because the judge didn't explain why he sentenced them far below federal guidelines.

Prosecutors say they stole $1.6 million from a South Philadelphia charity and spent it on themselves.

Arnao was a long-time aide to the powerful Philadelphia Democrat.

Prosecutors were seeking a nine- to 11-year guideline sentence for Arnao.

Senior U.S. District Judge Ronald Buckwalter last week added just six months to Fumo's 55-month sentence.
